Home Blog About this Blog Why we Charge what we Do

It has never been our approach to compare what we charge or how we handle license restoration appeals to the way any other lawyer or law firm does them. We don’t compete with anyone else on any level – price or otherwise.

We have a guarantee to make sure we win the first time. We earn our fee by getting you back on the road this year, not next year.

To start, we’ll spend more time with you at our very first meeting than just about anyone else will spend on your entire case.

Here’s where the old saying “you get what you pay for” really comes into play. The initial time we spend is really only enough to start the ball rolling and plan your case. We win – and guarantee our results – because we do thing carefully and thoroughly.

It takes a chunk of time for us to properly prepare you just to have your substance use evaluation completed. Because that document is really the foundation of a license appeal, we absolutely require that we meet before you get it done (even if that’s done remotely). It’s this commitment of time and effort that separates true superstars in any endeavor from everyone else; those who are successful at what they do prepare and practice, then practice even more, and spend countless hours perfecting their craft.

That’s how we handle every Michigan driver’s license restoration and clearance appeal case we take. By contrast, cutting corners at any stage of the process is NOT a recipe for success – it’s a quick path to failure.

My team and I don’t “build in” the cost of next year’s appeal because, when we take a case, there is almost never a need for one. We make our money doing things right the first time, but doing it right takes a lot of time and effort, none of which you will get for a bargain.

Ever.

One HUGE thing that makes our firm different from everyone else is that we publish our prices online. You can find them here: Fees.

We strongly believe in being upfront about costs, so we are.

Beyond money, we are unique because we absolutely require a potential client to have really quit drinking before we’ll take his or her case.

All the talk about high standards is just talk if a lawyer will just take any old case as long as someone is willing to pay the fee.

  • We don’t. Our integrity is not for sale.
  • No matter how much money you offer, we won’t take your case if you’re still drinking.
  • A necessary component of a winning license reinstatement case is having a sober client, and we require nothing less.
  • My team and I do things right and we play by the rules. We’re not interested in taking a case for anyone who has not really and truly stopped using alcohol.
  • To do so is not only dumb and greedy, but just plain wrong.

If you’ve ever bought a high-end brand of just about anything, then you know how much better it is than something made by any kind of discount or “knock off” competition.
In the driver’s license restoration world, this can be seen in the ever-changing landscape of “McLicense” operations. These lawyers come and go without ever establishing themselves as providers of high-quality services that deliver results.
When it comes to a winning license appeal case, we can guarantee a successful result precisely because we begin with a client who is genuinely sober. While my team and I are really good at what we do, making sure we only take cases for people who have really quit drinking is a key reason for our continued success.
Winning back your driver’s license comes down to telling the story of your recovery, and how you made the transition from drinker to non-drinker.
If you’ve had formal help doing that through something like counseling, treatment, or AA, then you realize the importance of speaking with someone who understands and can speak the language of addiction and recovery.
Welcome to our world
Beyond having just spent more than 30 years in this field, I have completed a formal post-graduate, University program of addiction studies, and understand the development, diagnosis and treatment of alcohol and substance abuse disorders, as well as the entire spectrum of ways people recover from them, all the way from “traditional” 12-step programs to the most modern treatment protocols.
As a Michigan driver’s license restoration lawyer, I am unique, and therefore uniquely qualified, because I speak the language of counselors who do substance abuse evaluations, and I also speak the language of the hearing officers, who are lawyers, and ultimately decide each and every license appeal that’s filed.
I make sure my team does, too, and we use that clinical knowledge every day, to our clients’ advantage.
Our job is to ensure that everything about a case “translates” into a winning appeal, and we do just that. We count on not having to come back next year to do a case all over again, without charge. This makes us every bit as invested in winning as our clients.
If you didn’t have much formal help in getting alcohol out of your life, then you’re going to need someone who can explain the facts of your case and your journey from drinking to abstinence in both clinical and legal terms in such a way to actually win your case.
Our firm stands alone in that regard.
I can provide a detailed explanation of recovery principles that other lawyers don’t even know exist.
Accordingly, my team and I bring the lawyer’s knowledge to the clinical side of things, and the clinical understanding to the legal aspect of your case.
The real “cost” of losing a license restoration or clearance appeal has less to do with legal fees and more to do with being denied for another whole year, and having to bum rides for the next 12 months, or even longer. In your next appeal, you’ll have to fix whatever went wrong the first time, and that can set you back even longer.
Some of the costs of losing the first time are financial, of course, but they also include all the other problems associated with being dependent on (and a burden to) others for transportation, and having to deal with the lack of independence and inability to really move forward in your life and career.
Not having a license is limiting in many ways.
Losing, therefore, brings incalculable costs. That’s why winning the first time is the best investment you can make.
You don’t have to worry about losing your money if you hire us. Our guarantee means we want to win your case the first time around every bit as much as you do. Ultimately, our goal is to get you back on the road, where you belong, and our of our file cabinet.
If you’re sober, and you’re really serious about getting your license back, then we should talk
